Addressing Dental Anxiety
We could discuss all the reasons you should visit the dentist, starting with the obvious benefit of preventive care. However, none of that will make a difference if you are fearful of sitting in a dental chair.
If you are, that is OK. Millions of people across the United States have some level of dental anxiety. A bad experience in your youth could have long-lasting repercussions well into adulthood. We know that those feelings are not going to disappear in a single dental visit, but we have seen that we can help people manage that anxiety. In time, you may find those feelings have faded as you get to know us and how we approach patient care.
As we noted above, our focus is on keeping you comfortable, both mentally and physically, during your time with us. At our office, you will find some amenities, such as massaging chairs to help you relax. Our patient rooms also have televisions, so you can distract yourself by watching one of your favorite shows.
If you have concerns about particular procedures or pieces of equipment, please let us know. We have other ways we can help.
One of those ways is sedation dentistry. Oral sedation is as simple as taking a dose of medication prior to your appointment. Please note that you should arrange for someone to drive you to and from your visit if you do choose this option.
Oral sedation is good for patients who:
- Have high dental anxiety
- Have a sensitive gag reflex
- Have strong tooth sensitivity
- Are undergoing complex procedures
You can get through your appointment without feeling a thing. Many people say they don’t remember their appointments, either, although they still get the benefits for their oral health.
Putting Technology to Good Use
We also noted that dental technology is an important part of our approach. This is another way our office is more patient-friendly.
Digital X-rays give us the ability to see images of your teeth in less time and a fraction of the radiation used in film X-rays. Three-dimensional imaging gives us a better understanding of the condition of your teeth and jawbones. That allows us to better diagnose problems and plan treatments when needed.
Also, our intraoral cameras allow us to examine your mouth up close. This gives us an opportunity to detect decay and gum infections even earlier than with the naked eye. That allows us to treat problems earlier and easier.
It’s About People
We may be in the business of caring for teeth, but really everything we do is about caring for people like you. We want to get to know you and your needs so you can get the highest quality general dentistry possible.
