Be the Superhero of Your Child’s Oral Health

One of the best things you can do for your child is to be the superhero of their oral health. You can start by scheduling a visit with us. Our team can help you make 7 O’Clock Dental in downtown New Orleans your training ground!

So dust off that cape, parents, and get ready for lift off!

To the Dentist……

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month, and at 7 O’Clock Dental, we give you reasons to celebrate!

When you trust your child’s dental care to us, you’re taking the first step in promoting good oral health that will last a lifetime. Not only will they have positive experiences in our office, they can use what they learn here to form healthy habits into adulthood.

Routine Cleanings and Exams

We recommend scheduling these check-ups about every six months. Our experienced dental assistants will give your child a thorough cleaning and examination using the latest technology like digital x-rays. It allows us to catch any developing problems early enough to keep them from becoming serious down the road.

Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride strengthens our enamel and protects us from tooth decay. It’s especially important that children receive the proper amount of fluoride for proper tooth development. Generally, our tap water is the best source for fluoride.

But if your child isn’t getting enough fluoride, Dr. Tripp may recommend a fluoride treatment, either as a gel or a varnish, to help protect your child’s tooth enamel from erosion and to prevent cavities.

Call us at 504-266-0664 to schedule an exam with Dr. Tripp, and be sure to ask him about whether your child may benefit from one of our fluoride treatments.

…..And Beyond!

You’ve made routine check-ups for your child a priority. So what’s next?

Healthy Habits at Home

If you’re doing it, your kids will want to do it, too. You can lead by example when it comes to a healthy oral hygiene routine at home.

Kids love incentives! Try hanging a rewards chart on the bathroom door so your child can keep track of his or her oral hygiene responsibilities. Both of you can decide together on goals you want to reach by the end of each week.

It takes a while for these behaviors to become habits. Giving them a reason to be excited about brushing their teeth in the morning may help that process along. Just be sure that the rewards you choose don’t involve a sugary treat!

Make it something fun you can do together as part of a nighttime routine, for example. Ask them questions about proper brushing techniques they learned at Dr. Tripp’s office. Or let them play the part of the dentist and show you the right way to floss.

Giving your kids a sense of ownership in your daily oral routine will empower them to maintain their own lifelong healthy habits.

Nutritional Counseling

Diet plays an important role is your child’s dental health, yet they can be the easiest targets for all the sugary snacks and drinks that cause tooth decay.

Maybe your kitchen is stocked with all the trendy sports drinks kids love so much. Or perhaps you’ve discovered that the only way your child will drink milk is if it’s mixed with chocolatey goodness. Even fruit juices are marketed to seem like a healthy option, when in reality, they’re full of added sugars.

At 7 O’Clock Dental, we believe that knowledge is power! That’s why we feel it’s important to take time to discuss with parents and kids the proper nutrition for maintaining a healthy smile.

Up, Up, and Away!

These are just some of the ways you can be the superhero of your child’s oral health. But sometimes superheroes require a little reinforcement. Even Batman needs a Robin, right?

At 7 O’Clock Dental, we don’t want you to wear the cape all by yourself. We’re here to help you by being the team of experts you can trust with your child’s dental health care needs. Give us a call at 504-266-0664 to schedule that first appointment or fill out our online form.

You be the superhero. We’ll be your sidekick. Give us a call today!
