I am very pleased with my services from the staff at 7 O’Clock Dental and Dr. Tripp. The office is very clean and I was welcomed by Crystal at the front desk that made me at ease. I had a tooth that needed to be removed and I was extremely nervous about the procedure, but Dr. Tripp assured me that I would be fine. He removed the tooth and I could not believe it when he told me he was done. It was painless and extremely quick. I would recommend 7 O’Clock Dental to anyone seeking dental treatment.
When you have oral pain of any kind it’s important to take it seriously! Like a lot of aches and pains people assume a toothache is just another problem that will go away with time but the opposite is true – a toothache means your body is trying to tell you something serious!
At 7 O’Clock Dental we’re here for you when you need us so don’t delay seeking help for a toothache! Whether you need care early in the morning or late in the evening we’ll make it happen – we’re open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.!
To help you understand how serious a toothache can be we want to talk about some of the causes and treatments needed. Some of these might sound severe but that’s because bad dental pain is a sign of serious trouble. The sooner you see us for a toothache the better!
Tooth Decay: The Most Common Cause
Cavities are incredibly common and are by far the most common cause of dental pain. But they don’t hurt until they’ve gone deep into your tooth! Cavities begin to hurt when they reach the root of a tooth where the soft dental pulp is located. The pulp contains nerves and blood vessels that quickly become infected by the bacteria that causes decay!
By the time a toothache starts it’s necessary to treat your infected tooth with a root canal. Despite the pain and fear associated with root canals they’re actually not painful at all! We’ll perform a root canal while the entire area is numbed with anesthesia. The only thing you’ll feel is relief from your pain! Root canals remove the infected pulp and save your tooth from having to be extracted – they’re a very beneficial treatment!
Dental Abscess: When Decay Goes Further
If you’re experiencing dental pain that’s accompanied by a fever, swelling, or severe inflammation then you may be suffering from a dental abscess. An abscess is a pocket of infected tissue in your gums or jaw that is caused by tooth decay that spreads beyond the affected tooth. Abscesses are serious and need to be treated immediately!
Abscesses need to be drained and can generally be treated using a root canal on the affected tooth. In some extreme cases tooth extraction may be required so it’s important that you see us right away at the first sign of a dental abscess!
Gum Disease: Severe Complications
If you have pain due to gum disease things have already become serious! Gum disease pain develops once your gums have started receding, bone loss has started, and the infection is severe! In some cases you may feel discomfort early in the course of gum disease but this is uncommon.
We can still treat gum disease, gum recession, and complications from this condition at our New Orleans dentist office! As always, our first goal is to relieve your pain! We’ll work with you to make your gum disease pain vanish without a trace while saving your teeth, gums, and bone!
Teeth Grinding: It Can Cause Trauma!
If you grind your teeth you might not even know it! Also called bruxism, teeth grinding and clenching often happens at night when you’re asleep. Your sleep partner might notice it but you probably won’t notice anything except pain in your jaw and face when you wake up!
Bruxism can cause serious damage to your teeth. It can loosen them, cause a change in your bite, and even result in microfractures that are invisible but extremely painful! We can treat bruxism fast and we can help protect your teeth from further damage! Microfractures can generally be treated with a crown or bonding that replaces the damaged portion of the tooth.
